Vets Match Reports 21/11

Only about 10 weeks before the season started Rob and I bumped into Carl at the Old Xavs dinner and we floated the idea of getting an OXCC veterans side going. It seemed implausible at the time but with support of the school, Davina and Carl it all started to take shape and by round 1 we had a team of 11 veterans making the club’s debut in the ECA’s Div 1 over 50’s comp.

The two Paul’s, Clarke and Thomas, making 40’s (compulsory retirements) and Sam Nunan’s 3 wickets were the highlights in an honourable loss to Edinburgh.
We registered our first win the following round chasing down Northcote’s 163 with last pair Robert MacIsaac and Colin Moorhead getting us home in the last over after 40’s from Jerome Whelan and David MacIsaac. Sam Nunan and Paul Thomas taking the bowling honours.

Unfortunately the weather has not been kind, but it has not damped the enthusiasm and we’ve all enjoyed the camaraderie and laughs and reconnecting with old school mates and making some new friends. It has also been great to be around the younger guys many of whom are well known to us through our connections with the school.

We’re still looking to build numbers, so if you know anyone who is still playing or ruing that they gave the game away too early, get them down to training on Wednesday nights. Hope to see you at our first home game against Mont Albert on Sunday 4th Dec.
